Web Business Weekly #53

Feels like I’ve been a ghost lately…
It’s because for the last week I’ve been in Bangkok at an event called DCBKK. Around 300 entrepreneurs from around the world descend on the same hotel once every year.
As usual, I went in with good intentions to get regular work done, including this newsletter. But with so much going on, it just didn’t happen. Sorry!
I try to make a point of getting to a few conferences each year. Specifically, ones that require travel – not local small business ones.
Not that there’s anything wrong with the local ones, but something changes when you leave your comfort zone… and when everyone at the conference is in the same boat.
It’s somewhere between business and a holiday, with a ton of learning, meeting new people that are doing awesome things, and just chilling out.
Every single time, I come home with more energy, ideas and am ready to kick some business ass. Something just changes in my mind.
The effect is so obvious that a few weeks before the event when I was stressed and worried, my partner said “It’s good this conference is coming up, you NEED to get away”.
She can see how different I am before and after. Night and day.
But you know what… my favourite part BY FAR are the connections with such a wide range of entrepreneurs. Some are just starting out, some are crushing it and some have sold up a business and looking for their next thing.
A network is one of the most important things to have in business. In the last couple of weeks alone, I’ve sought help from my network for introductions, feedback on messaging and general support. Without putting effort into meeting all these people, I’d be sitting at home worried and stressed.
If you’ve never ventured out to an event like this, I can’t recommend it enough. If it’s hard to get away because you have a family and clients, it’s still possible. I made friends with at least 15 people that had made it happen with a family. That’s how important it is.
If you have been to events like this, where were they and what were they called?
