Why can’t a minor complete ID verification (Proof of Identity)?

If you send a Proof of Identity (POI) request to a client who is under 18 and they receive a message saying they are “under the required age,” this is expected behaviour in certain cases.

Content Snare uses Stripe to handle identity verification. Stripe’s Identity service does not support verifying individuals who are considered minors, specifically under the age of 16.

Why does it happen?

This isn’t a technical limitation on our end. It’s primarily due to legal and regulatory requirements around collecting and processing personal data from minors. Regulations such as COPPA (US), GDPR-K (EU) and Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 place strict conditions on how a minor’s identity and personal information can be collected and verified.

As a result, Stripe does not allow ID verification for individuals under 16, and this limitation carries through to Content Snare:

Note: You can check out Stripe’s official list of unsupported use cases.

Is Content Snare a full POI/KYC platform?

We do not position Content Snare as a full KYC or dedicated POI platform.

Content Snare is primarily a content collection platform. Proof of Identity is one of many features designed to help streamline document gathering and basic identity checks. The system integrates Stripe’s verification technology to provide a compliant and lightweight ID verification solution within the scope of what Stripe supports.

What if you’ve already purchased credits?

If you’ve purchased additional ID verification credits for a minor client who is unable to complete POI due to age restrictions, please contact our support team. We can review the situation and help with next steps.
