Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a layer of security to your account. In addition to logging in with your email and password, you’ll use an app that generates a special code (also called a One-Time Password or OTP). This is the second security factor, in addition to your usual password.
Bear in mind that Content Snare only allows 2FA setup with authenticator apps. SMS authentication is not available because authenticator apps are more reliable and more secure.
Setting up 2FA
Step 1: Get an authenticator app
You’ll need an app that generates these authentication codes before you get started. The most popular is Google Authenticator, available for both Android and iPhone. Some other options include:
Step 2: Turn on 2FA
In Content Snare, go to your avatar in the top-right corner and click Settings from the drop-down menu. Then go to Passwords and 2FA on the left side of the dashboard and click the Enable 2FA button.

A 2FA installation pop-up will appear, so you’ll just need to follow the steps:
- You will be shown a QR code.
- Open your authenticator app and add a new site.
- Select the QR code option.
- Use your authenticator app to scan the QR code shown by Content Snare.
Note: If you have trouble with this step, you can add a site manually using a special code below the QR code. Click the Show secret key for manual configuration link to reveal the code. |
- You should see Content Snare appear in your authenticator app.
- Click Next in Content Snare.

- You will be asked to enter a six-digit code. Get this code from where it says “Content Snare” in your authenticator app. You may have to click Reveal PIN or similar.
- Important: You will be shown some recovery codes. Copy them somewhere safe, where no one else can access them. These are used in case you lose your phone or you cannot access your authenticator app for some reason. If you lose your phone AND these codes, it will take several days to regain access to your account.
- Two-factor authentication is now enabled on your account.
Step 3: Log in to your account
Next time you are logging in, you’ll be asked to enter your authentication code. Simply open your authenticator app, find your Content Snare account and enter the six-digit code shown there.
If you select Trust this device, you will not need to enter a two-factor code again on the same device for 90 days. After this, you will need to enter your code again.
Note: Two-factor authentication can be enforced for all users in your organization. This is available in Settings → Company → Security. |

Disabling two-factor authentication
This is not recommended, but if you would like to disable two-factor authentication:
- Login to Content Snare
- Go to Settings → Security
- Click the button Disable 2FA
- Enter your Content Snare password
- Click Disable 2FA
- Delete Content Snare from your Authenticator app
If you enable 2FA at a later date, the old codes will not work.
Note: If two-factor authentication is enforced by your company administrator, you will not be able to disable it. |
