UK accounting firms have been dealing with growing compliance demands and a steady shift toward digital-first workflows over the past few years. Much of that pressure has been driven by Making Tax Digital (MTD), which has fundamentally changed how often firms need to collect and submit client information.

As those challenges have grown, we’ve spent a lot of time adapting Content Snare to better support the way UK accountants work. That focus was recently recognised when Content Snare was named UK Practice App of the Year at the 2025 Xero App Awards.

Rather than being about the award itself, this post looks at the work behind it and what this recognition means for the firms using Content Snare day to day.

About the Xero App AwardsThe Xero App Awards recognise the most innovative and impactful apps in the Xero ecosystem. Each year, Xero highlights tools that help accounting firms and small businesses work more efficiently and securely. Alongside global winners, regional awards celebrate apps that understand local market needs and deliver real value to practices in their own regions.

The work behind the award

Awards like this aren’t usually about a single feature or release. On the contrary, they reflect consistent product decisions made over time, shaped by real customer use and feedback. For Content Snare, this recognition reflects a focused effort on helping professional firms reduce friction in one of the most time-consuming parts of their work: collecting accurate information and documents from clients. That means:

  • Building a tool that fits naturally into your workflows
  • Removing unnecessary back-and-forth
  • Scaling as reporting requirements increase

It also means prioritising reliability and security. Content Snare is ISO 27001-certified, which is a big deal for accounting firms handling sensitive financial and tax data. Much of our work has been about making information collection simpler without compromising control or security, so we designed:

  • Encrypted data and secure infrastructure
  • Confidential fields for sensitive information
  • Unguessable links
  • Optional PIN code protection
  • Backups and disaster recovery

Being named UK Practice App of the Year tells us that the approach we’ve taken is resonating with accounting firms using Content Snare in their day-to-day work.

Why the UK became a major focus for us

MTD has turned client information collection into a year-round task. Quarterly submissions mean UK accountants need accurate records more often, and chasing missing documents multiple times a year can quickly become unmanageable without the right system in place.

That’s where we saw a clear opportunity to help. Content Snare focused on the operational reality behind MTD to support firms in collecting the right information at the right time. That sustained focus on the UK contributed to Content Snare being named UK Practice App of the Year.

“It aligns perfectly with the work we’ve been putting into the UK. We really value our UK customers, and we’re excited to keep making your info collection and MTD challenges a whole lot easier,” said Content Snare co-founder James Rose.

Part of a bigger global pictureWhile the award recognises our work with UK firms, it reflects a broader trend we’re seeing globally. Content Snare was also named a finalist in two more regions at the 2025 Xero App Awards: New Zealand and Canada.

How this benefits your daily work

Awards only matter if they lead to real improvements in how your accounting work gets done. In practice, the biggest benefit of Content Snare’s UK-focus is simpler and more predictable client information collection.

The system provides your firm with repeatable workflows that run in the background, which means you don’t have to rebuild processes every quarter or chase clients across emails and shared folders. Some of the key benefits of using Content Snare include:

  • Building structured requests with simple instructions for clients
  • Automating follow-ups to reduce manual chasing
  • Supporting recurring and bulk requests for quarterly and year-end work
  • Keeping all client information and documents in one secure place

This approach also reduces friction internally. With Content Snare, your clients’ data arrives in a consistent format and place, and your team can spend less time managing admin and more time focusing on advisory work.

What’s next for Content Snare

As MTD continues to roll out, UK firms will need reliable ways to manage more frequent client requests without extra admin. That’s where our next round of product work is focused.

We’re currently preparing a set of 20 MTD-specific templates designed for common UK reporting workflows, so firms don’t need to build requests from scratch. These templates plug straight into existing automation to make recurring MTD work easier to run at scale.
